Tosca at the Benedum
Members of the Retirees Association traveled by chartered bus to Pittsburgh to see the matinee of Tosca at the Benedum Center. The place is Rome where police chief Scarpia is hunting an escaped political prisoner and he's trying to force opera star Floria Tosca to reveal the hiding place. It's a story with political intrigue, love, loyalty, betrayal and murder.
The Pittsburgh Opera offered the
Retirees Association a substantial educational discount on tickets. Retirees left Morgantown at 10:30 a.m. and arrived in Pittsburgh around 12 Noon. There
are several restaurants near the Benedum Center where they could have lunch on their own, There was a pre-opera talk that began at
1:00 p.m. at the Benedum.
Included on the bus trip was a pre-opera talk by Byron Nelson, a retiree from the WVU English Department and the OLLI instructor for Opera as Drama. Byron also offered a short critical recap on the way home.
