Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the WVU Retirees Association was held on April 23 in the Erickson Alumni Center. Our speaker at the meeting was Wren Baker, WVU Vice President and Athletic Director. He also brought along Brad Howe and the two of them took questions from our members. It was an excellent presentation. Our meeting also included a business report of the Association, a vote for new board members, and a reception following the meeting. Carol Henry was reelected as the representative for non-classified staff and Karen Long was reelected as the faculty representative. The Mountaineer also joined us and visited with the group. In the photo is Wren Baker, Sonja Wilson, WVURA Board President, Clarke Ridgway, WVURA Board Vice President, and Brad Howe. You may recognize Brad as a basketball radio analyst and as one of the three guys on the show, "Three Guys Before The Game".

The WVU Retiree Association, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, held a blood drive from 9:00am - 2:30pm in the Nutting Gallery of the WVU Erickson Alumni Center. Our roster was full and we were able to donate blood to save lives in our community.

The April book was How the Word is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America by Clint Smith. A deeply researched exploration of the legacy of slavery and its imprint on centuries of American history, Smith's debut work offers a new understanding of the hopeful role that memory and history can play in making sense of our country and how it has come to be.
