Tuesday, March 12, 2024
Retirees enjoyed a tour and scavenger hunt at the Morgantown History Museum. The museum opened exclusively for retirees and they were among the first to see the renovations and new exhibits. They explored the history of Monongalia County through an examination of artifacts and first-hand historical accounts. The museum is a dynamic facility that protects, researches, and maintains detailed exhibits about the region from prehistory to the present day. After the tour, retirees enjoyed light refreshments.

Friday, March 1, 2024The March book was The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder by David Grann. On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. The men, after being marooned for months and facing starvation, built the flimsy craft and sailed for more than a hundred days, traversing 2500 miles of storm-wracked seas. They were greeted as heroes.
