Ohio Amish Tour
September 19, 2024Retirees traveled by chartered bus to Ohio Amish Country. It was a one-day trip that began at a bakery and ended at a winery with apples, chocolates, and ice cream in between.
The tour started at the Hershberger Bakery and Farmers Market, the largest
Amish family-owned bakery. There was a full line of baked goods and locally grown produce. Retirees could walk out to
the petting zoo to greet Big King, the largest registered Belgium
horse in Ohio. A pastry was included for all.
Next was Hillcrest Orchard owned and operated by an Amish
family, with freshly made apple cider for sale. There was also fresh
apples and fresh produce!
Then to Coblentz Chocolates, owned by a local Mennonite
family. There were samples for our enjoyment and we were able to watch the Amish
employees create candies!
The Walnut Creek Market Place was next. Over 100 booths
of locally produced food and crafts were all under roof, climate controlled and wheelchair accessible. There were plenty of
places to sit and relax. There was also a new winery and brewery in front
of the Market.
Then on to Walnut Creek Cheese, the largest bulk food store in the
area. It’s a great place to buy spices in bulk, fresh meats, cheese, and an in-house
bakery that specializes in cinnamon rolls. Here you will find the best ice cream. An Ice cream cone was included for
all.
The last stop was the Brietenbach Winery. They make their own wines and
have won many awards. There were four tastings each of their wines.
We departed for home with many pleasant memories!
