Seminar Series in Financial Literacy
The Center for Financial Literacy and Education in the College of Business and Economics in conjunction with the West Virginia
University Retirees Association presents a Seminar Series in Financial Literacy to empower WVU retirees to make sound financial decisions.
The five-module series will be offered beginning on January 25 and continuing in two week intervals through March 22. The sessions will run from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. in the Erickson Alumni Center. There will be time for questions and refreshments.
This seminar series is designed to offer retirees valuable information regarding
their own personal finances through an interactive learning environment that will
arm participants with the ability to plan for their futures and fully understand
the scope of their financial decisions. The series will consist of five modules
specifically designed with the retiree in mind that will offer insight from professionals
working in the Morgantown area who can answer questions about financial decision
making in retirement.
Series Overview
Module 1: What is Personal Financial Planning? - January 25, 2018
Module 1 will teach participants how individuals generally make personal financial
planning decisions and how to achieve financial success from strategic financial
planning.
Module 2: Life after WVU - February 8, 2018
In Module 2 participants will learn about retirement benefits offered at WVU and
how those benefits are changing. A representative from TIAA will also speak
about minimum withdrawals and annuities.
Module 3: Navigating Medicare and Social Security - February 22, 2018
Module 3 will provide participants with detailed information about how to get the most out of their social security. An overview of Medicare will also be provided including when and how to enroll and what coverage is best for you and your family.
Module 4: Life Insurance - March 8, 2018
Module 4 will present an overview of the various forms of life insurance: what do you need, what don't you need, and how to minimize the costs associated with holding life insurance.
Module 5: Estate Planning - March 22, 2018
Module 5 will present participants with an overview of estate planning and discuss why it is critical to have a solid estate plan in place to ensure transferability of your assets.
