The WVU Retirees Association has decided to take a step out of the ordinary and visit the Palace of Gold, hidden in the hills of Moundsville, WV. But first, we’ll tour the Grave Creek Indian Mound and then the West Virginia Penitentiary for a 90-minute guided tour.
The penitentiary tour will consist of an astonishing history, a touch of art, cold hard facts, and insight into the justice system. Time Magazine says, “Unlike most of the people who’ve previously walked through the gates of the West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, you can be fairly certain you’ll be walking out again a few hours later…”
At the Palace of Gold we will have a guided tour of the interior of the palace where you will learn about the history and view breath-taking marble from around the world, antiques, original artworks, handcrafted teakwood, gold and more.
We will depart Morgantown at 8:00 a.m. from the Mountaineer Mall. We should
arrive in Moundsville around 9:30 a.m. for the tour of the Indian Mound and then on to the penitentiary tour that begins at
11:00 a.m.
We will stop for lunch after the tour. Lunch will be on your own.
After lunch we will leave for the Palace of Gold tour. We should leave the Palace of Gold around 4:30 p.m. and arrive in Morgantown at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The cost of the trip is $50.00 per seat. The price includes bus transportation and entrance fees to both the penitentiary and the Palace of Gold.
Refund Policy: Reservations for this trip are due by July 13, 2018. On that day, we will make our commitment to Budget Charters. As a result, we will not be able to make any refunds after that date.
