New Tygart Flyer and Forest Festival, Thursday, October 2, 2025

All aboard the New Tygart Flyer!  Join retirees on a trip to Elkins WV to board the New Tygart Flyer for a four-hour ride on a diesel train along the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River to the High Falls of Cheat.  This wilderness excursion includes a cold-cut lunch on our way to the Falls.

When we get back to Elkins, you’ll have time to enjoy the Mountain State Forest Festival, one of the oldest and largest festivals in West Virginia.  

We’ll leave Morgantown at 8:00 a.m. from the Mountaineer Mall and arrive in Elkins in time to board the New Tygart Flyer.  We’re back in Elkins at 3:30 p.m. and will have the next few hours to explore the Forest Festival.  We'll leave Elkins at 6:00 p.m. and should be back in Morgantown around 7:30 p.m.

The cost of the trip, that includes transportation and tickets for the train ride, is $135 per person.  We have just 40 tickets for the train ride so seating is limited.  If you are interested, you should reserve your seat as soon as possible.  We have opened registration for our members and their guests.  If we have seats available after September 12, we will open registration to non-members.

Refund Policy:  Reservations are due by Thursday, September 25, 2025.  On that day we will make our commitment to the bus company.  As a result, we will not be able to make any refunds after that date.  

Making reservations is a three-step process.  You need to: (1) reserve your seat(s) on the bus, (2) write your check to the WVU Foundation, and (3) mail your check to the Retirees Association (do not mail your check to the Foundation).
