Flight 93 National Memorial

The Flight 93 National Memorial site is exactly what it says – a memorial. The Visitor Center has displays that depict all that was going on in New York, Washington, and Shanksville on September 11. But once you enter the grounds, it is quiet, solemn, and respectful. It is the final resting place of the passengers and crew.  Flight 93 National Memorial

Despite the rain, we had a very nice trip. We visited the Visitor Center Complex, the Memorial Plaza at the crash site, and walked through the Memorial Groves. Each time we stopped, the rain stopped too – until the very end.

We had lunch at the Oak Hurst Tea Room and then went on to the Quecreek Mine Rescue Site. You can see the actual shaft under the square cover in the photo – tiny, tiny, tiny!  Quecreek

In the end, we traveled back to Morgantown in a powerful thunderstorm with tornado warnings all around. We did stop for a while until the warning in our area was lifted. Our driver did an excellent job and, by the time we got to Morgantown, the tornado warning was lifted there too and the rain stopped for us again. Somebody on our bus is living right!!
