The December book was The War That Forged A Nation by James McPherson. The book considers why the Civil War remains so deeply embedded in our national psyche and identity. The November book was One Summer: America,1927 by Bill Bryson. The summer of 1927 began with Charles Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic, Babe Ruth was closing in on the home run record. and the first true “talking picture,” Al Jolson’s The Jazz Singer, was filmed.  All this and much, much more transpired when the twentieth century truly became the American century.
